2019 Pedal for Alzheimer’s

Pedal for Alzheimer’s 2019 was building on the tremendous success of its inaugural Pedal for Pat event, held in October 2017, followed by a successful second year’s event: Pedal for Alzheimer’s.

The theme was “All In!” The 1098 Cyclists, a team limited to 12, once again pedaled 1,098 miles to honor each win of the late-legendary University of Tennessee women’s basketball coach Pat Summitt’s NCAA record 1,098 wins. Each mile was a victory as the 1098 Cyclists ascended from Knoxville, Tennessee, pedaling through The Great Smoky Mountains to North and South Carolina, down the Georgia and Florida coasts, and concluded this third annual event in Daytona Beach.

2019 Day Ride

On September 29th,  the Pedal for Alzheimer’s 1098 Cyclists started the team’s 12-day, 1,098-mile charity ride! There was also a family-friendly 10-mile route. The ride went through rolling hills, beautiful vistas and challenging climbs from Knoxville to Sevierville.

Afterwards, a celebration with the team and friends took place as the 1098 Cyclists prepared for the remaining 11 days en route to Daytona Beach in honor of legendary Coach Pat Summitt’s 1,098 career NCAA wins and in an effort to spread awareness and raise funds for Alzheimer’s research, support, education and care.

2019 Virtual Cyclists

Many joined the mission of Pedal for Alzheimer’s by becoming a Virtual Cyclist! They rode 1,098 miles by October 10th, and donated a minimum $100 to the cause, to receive a team T-shirt, and feel pride knowing they helped the fight against Alzheimer’s.

2019 The Longest Day Ride

On Saturday, June 22, 2019, people around the world participated in The Longest Day®, a day dedicated to all those affected by Alzheimer’s disease. Whether it was choosing a favorite activity, hosting an event or joining a team, participants ignited a global conversation about Alzheimer’s disease, the brain, and other dementia’s as part of Alzheimer’s & Brain Awareness Month® in June. Together, they joined an effort to show love to those affected by Alzheimer’s disease.

2018 Pedal for Alzheimer’s

Pedal for Alzheimer’s 2018 successfully completed a second annual 1,098-mile, 11-day event which build on the tremendous success of its inaugural Pedal for Pat event, held in October 2017. This year’s goal was to “Raise The Bar.” The 1098 Cyclists, a team of dedicated cyclists, pedaled from Knoxville, Tennessee, through The Great Smoky Mountains to North and South Carolina, down the Georgia and Florida coasts, and concluded in Daytona Beach. Soon after the event, the team issued $70,000 to the Alzheimer’s Research Initiative at the University of Tennessee Medical Center to help further the research, awareness, and education of Alzheimer’s.

2018 The Longest Day Ride

On June 21, 2018, the Pedal for Alzheimer’s team of cyclists set out for a 100-mile route for The Longest Day event to raise funds for the Alzheimer’s Association. Even though the day was cut short due to severe weather, the team surpassed the fundraising goal to be able to present $2,500 to the Alzheimer’s Association. Each rider donated towards the mission and West Bicycles in east Tennessee hosted the event.

2017 Pedal for Pat

The inaugural event, Pedal for Pat 2017, was successfully completed by a team of 8 “Summitt Cyclists” who pedaled a grueling 100 miles per day for 11 consecutive days from October 17-27, through Tennessee, Georgia and Florida in order to reach their 1,098 mile goal concluding in Key Largo, Florida. The event originally was planned for 12 days; however, due to the impact from Hurricane Irma, the cyclists rallied to finish the mileage in just 11 days.

The team issued $100,000 to the Pat Summitt Foundation to help further the research, awareness, and education of Alzheimer’s.
