ROBIN HARDIN

Dr. Rob Hardin is a professor in the Sport Management program in the Department of Kinesiology, Recreation, & Sport Studies at the University of Tennessee. He earned his PhD in Communications from the University of Tennessee. He holds both a master’s degree in Communications and in Sport Studies from the University of Tennessee as well. He received his bachelor’s degree in Communications and Political Science from East Tennessee State University.

Dr. Hardin has a variety of teaching experiences but primarily focuses on Intercollegiate Athletics, Event Management, and Foundations of Sport Management. His research interests focus on the governance of collegiate athletics focusing on administrator career mobility and the holistic care of athletes. Dr. Hardin also examines topics focused on sport management education as well as adaptive sport and recreation. He has more than 100 scholarly publications and more than 150 scholarly presentations.

He has been recognized for his research efforts by being named a Research Fellow by both the Applied Sport Management Association and College Sport Research Institute. He also is a Sport Management Education Journal Research Fellow. He has been inducted into the Commission on Sport Management Accreditation (COSMA) Hall of Fame as a Master Educator.

He served as editor of Sport Management Education Journal and is currently a member of the editorial board of the Journal of Intercollegiate Sport and the Journal of Issues in Intercollegiate Athletics. He has mentored 15 doctoral students and more than 100 master’s students.

Dr. Hardin is also active in the profession. He serves as a member of the official statistics staff for football as well as men’s and women’s basketball for Tennessee Athletics. This role entails responsibility for all computerized statistics for all official statistical categories recognized by the NCAA. This also requires intricate knowledge of the rules of the sports and statistical categories.

He also serves as a member of the Media Coordination Committee for selected Southeastern Conference events. He assists with the football championship game, men’s basketball tournament, and football media days. His responsibilities have included the overseeing of student volunteer staff in the distribution of statistics and other event information during competitions, as well as escorting coaches and student-athletes for press conferences and media appearances. He is a member of the official statistics staff for the men’s basketball tournament.

In addition, Dr. Hardin is a member of the Championship Committee for the Visit Knoxville Open, a tournament on the PGA’s Korn Ferry Tour. He has served in a variety of capacities on this committee primarily assisting with general event management and logistics.
